News Story

Introduction to BMW R 1300 GS

BMW Motorrad has launched the R 1300 GS in India at Rs 20.95 lakh, making it Rs 40,000 more than the outgoing R 1250 GS bike’s starting price. This new model brings several enhancements and features, promising a thrilling experience for adventure biking enthusiasts.

Power and Performance

The R 1300 GS is powered by a horizontally opposed, 1,300cc twin-cylinder engine with a 13.3:1 compression ratio. This engine delivers a peak output of 145hp at 7,750rpm and 149Nm of torque at 6,500rpm, compared to the previous model’s 134hp and 143Nm. The bike weighs 237kg with a full 19-litre fuel tank, which is 12 kilos lighter than the R 1250 GS despite holding one litre less fuel.

Standard Features and Variants

In India, all R 1300 GS variants come with cross-spoked tubeless wheels as standard, unlike the international markets where some variants get alloy wheels or spoked rims. The Comfort and Dynamic packages are also standard on all India-spec models, including an electronic windscreen, bidirectional quickshifter, center stand, Pro riding modes, and more.

Touring Package and Adaptive Ride Height

All variants except the base Light White come with the Touring package as standard. This package includes pannier mounts, chromed exhaust header pipes, adaptive headlight, knuckle-guard extenders, and GPS device mounting. Additionally, the Triple Black variant is the only one in India that can be equipped with the optional Adaptive Ride Height feature.

Top-Spec Option 719 Tramuntana

The range-topping Option 719 Tramuntana is the only variant that gets radar-assisted safety features like Active Cruise Control and Front Collision Warning. It also boasts an eye-catching Green/Yellow paint option and various milled metal components. However, this top model cannot be equipped with the Adaptive Ride Height feature.

Pricing and Competitors

At Rs 20.95 lakh, the R 1300 GS is competitively priced, undercutting the Ducati Multistrada V4 line-up (Rs 21.48 lakh–31.48 lakh) and the Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 Special (Rs 24.64 lakh). The Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Pro carries a lower price tag of Rs 19.19 lakh. Deliveries for the R 1300 GS are set to commence this month, making it a highly anticipated addition to the Indian market.

BMW Motorrad’s R 1300 GS brings a host of new features and improvements to the Indian market. With its powerful engine, advanced safety features, and competitive pricing, it is set to make a significant impact in the adventure biking segment. Enthusiasts can look forward to experiencing the cutting-edge technology and performance that the R 1300 GS promises to deliver.
