News Story

Ducati has amplified its DesertX line-up with the introduction of the all-new Rally model, a motorcycle tailored for enhanced off-road capabilities. Several visual cues set this bike apart and emphasize its prowess in conquering rough terrain.

Off-Road Performance Enhancements

The Ducati DesertX Rally takes a step further in off-road prowess compared to the standard DesertX. Key indicators include:

Tall Dirt-Bike-Style Front Fender: Replacing the standard mudguard, this tall fender prevents mud from accumulating between the wheel and the mudguard.

Single-Piece Bench Seat: Standard on the Rally, this seat design, combined with new suspension components, raises the seat height even higher than the standard model’s 875mm. The DesertX Rally boasts an impressive seat height of 910mm, although an optional low seat can reduce it to 885mm.

Engine Bashguard: A notable addition is the forged carbon fiber engine bashguard, a first in production motorcycles.

Unchanged Engine Power

The DesertX Rally retains the same potent 937cc L-twin engine, producing 110hp and 92Nm of torque. There are no modifications to gearing or sprocket sizes.

Advanced Suspension

Notably, the suspension has undergone significant upgrades. Manufactured by Showa, the new front fork and rear shock are more advanced units. Both offer increased travel of 20mm, now at 250mm in the front and 240mm at the rear. Ground clearance has consequently risen from 250mm to an impressive 280mm.

The suspension itself is more sophisticated, featuring a closed cartridge 48mm fork at the front and a new monoshock with a larger 46mm piston at the rear. Both ends offer full adjustability, with the rear suspension’s compression damping adjustment further divided into high-speed and low-speed damping.

Rugged Wheels and Tires

Departing from the side-laced spoked rims with tubeless tires found on the standard bike, the DesertX Rally adopts centrally mounted spokes on new Excel Takasago rims. These rims are less vulnerable to rock damage and are lighter. However, the Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tires maintain the same sizes as the standard DesertX: 90/90–21 at the front and 150/70–R18 at the rear. Billet aluminum is used for the wheel hubs and foot levers, contributing to weight savings.

Durability and Style

Despite the weight-saving measures, the adoption of tubed tires has led to a slight increase in curb weight compared to the standard DesertX, now at 224kg.

The DesertX Rally maintains the comprehensive electronics package and style but features colored plastic bodywork, designed to better conceal scratches and scuffs. The graphics are crafted from a thicker PVC material, enhancing durability.

Price and Availability

While prices have yet to be officially announced, if Ducati brings the DesertX Rally to India, it is expected to retail around the Rs 20 lakh mark, considering that the standard DesertX is already priced at Rs 17.91 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

In conclusion, the Ducati DesertX Rally takes the adventure to the next level with its off-road-focused enhancements, making it an appealing choice for riders seeking rugged terrain adventures.
