Kawasaki to Launch Retro Model W230

News Story

Kawasaki is set to introduce a new retro motorcycle, the W230, in Japan. Embracing the design ethos of the W series, the W230 brings a classic look to the quarter-litre segment.

Design and Aesthetics

The Kawasaki W230 features a minimalist and timeless design. It includes a circular LED headlight, dual analogue gauges with a digital display, and chrome accents on the headlight bezel, exhaust pipes, and handlebar. The bike sports a predominantly white color scheme with a black stripe on the fuel tank and a two-tone seat cover. Chrome-finished spoke wheels enhance its retro appearance.

Engine and Performance

Speculations suggest that the W230 is powered by a 233cc single-cylinder engine, possibly based on the KLX230. While specific power output details remain undisclosed, the KLX230’s engine produces 20hp at 8000rpm and 20.6Nm at 6000rpm, providing a benchmark for expectations.

Suspension and Braking

The motorcycle’s suspension system includes a gaitered telescopic front fork and dual rear shocks. For braking, the W230 is equipped with front and rear disc brakes featuring dual-channel ABS, mounted on 18-inch front and 17-inch rear spoke wheels.

Target Audience

The Kawasaki W230 is designed to attract a mature audience, particularly those who appreciate vintage motorcycle designs. With the success of classic models like the Royal Enfield Bullet 350 and Classic 350 in India, there is significant market potential for the W230.

Market Positioning and Pricing

Kawasaki launched the W175 at Rs 1.47 lakh, later reducing it to Rs 1.22 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The introduction of the W230 raises questions about whether it will replace or complement the W175. To compete with established models like Royal Enfield’s 350cc range and Honda’s 350 range, Kawasaki will need to price the W230 competitively if it plans to introduce it to the Indian market.

Currently, the Kawasaki W230 is available only in the Japanese market, with no official details about its launch in India. As the brand continues to expand its retro motorcycle lineup, enthusiasts eagerly await more information on this classic addition.
