Suzuki GSX-8R Launched in India: A New Contender in the Middleweight Sportbike Segment

News Story

Suzuki has launched the all-new GSX-8R in India, positioning it as a strong rival to other middleweight sportbikes like the Triumph Daytona 660, Aprilia RS 660, and Kawasaki Ninja 650. With advanced features, a powerful engine, and cutting-edge technology, the GSX-8R is set to make its mark in the competitive market.

776cc Parallel Twin Engine: Power and Performance

At the heart of the Suzuki GSX-8R lies a 776cc parallel twin engine, which also powers the Suzuki V-Strom 800DE, but in a higher state of tune. The GSX-8R produces 82hp and 78Nm of torque, delivering more power and torque compared to its ADV sibling. This engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox equipped with a bi-directional quickshifter, a standard feature that enhances the sporty riding experience by allowing clutchless upshifts and downshifts.

Sporty Design with Advanced Features

The GSX-8R features Suzuki’s new design language, highlighted by a vertically stacked LED headlamp framed by air intakes for a sleek and aggressive appearance. It is packed with modern features, including a ride-by-wire throttle, traction control, multiple riding modes, and ABS, giving riders confidence and control in various riding conditions.

For braking, the GSX-8R is equipped with dual 310mm discs at the front and a single 240mm disc at the rear, ensuring strong stopping power.

Comfort and Handling

Built to deliver both performance and practicality, the GSX-8R has a fuel tank capacity of 14 liters and a kerb weight of 205 kg. This makes it well-suited for both spirited rides on the track and longer road trips. It rides on cast aluminum wheels wrapped in Dunlop RoadSport 2 tyres, which provide excellent grip and handling.

Suspension duties are handled by a Showa USD fork at the front and a Showa monoshock at the rear, both offering pre-load adjustment for a customizable riding experience.

Color Options and Rivals

The GSX-8R is available in three striking color options: Metallic Matte Sword Silver, Metallic Triton Blue, and Metallic Matte Black No.2, giving riders the choice to pick a style that suits their taste.

In terms of competition, the Suzuki GSX-8R will be up against some serious rivals in the middleweight sportbike segment, including the Kawasaki Ninja 650, Triumph Daytona 660, and Aprilia RS 660. With its combination of power, advanced features, and sharp design, the GSX-8R is well-equipped to take on its competitors.

The launch of the Suzuki GSX-8R adds another exciting option for sportbike enthusiasts in India. Its powerful 776cc engine, advanced technology, and refined design make it a worthy contender in the highly competitive middleweight category. Whether you’re looking for track performance or a practical sportbike for everyday riding, the GSX-8R offers a compelling package for motorcycle enthusiasts.
