Triumph has introduced a new entry-level motorcycle named the Speed T4, priced at ₹2.17 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This model shares many components with the Speed 400 but features several mechanical and equipment changes to make it a more affordable option.

Key Differences and Features

Design and Components: At first glance, the Speed T4 resembles the Speed 400. However, notable differences include a simpler, cost-effective telescopic fork at the front and conventional mirrors instead of the more stylish bar-end mirrors found on the Speed 400. The T4 also comes with a more basic axially mounted front brake caliper, simpler gearshift and rear brake levers, and a less refined handlebar that lacks the sandblasted finish of the Speed 400.

Tires and Levers: The T4 is fitted with more economical bias-ply MRF Zapper tires, while the Speed 400 benefits from Vredestein radial tires. Additionally, the T4 has non-adjustable hand levers compared to the adjustable ones on the Speed 400 following its MY25 update.

Engine Specifications

Same Engine, Different Tuning: Both motorcycles use the 399cc TR-series engine, but the T4 has been tuned to produce lower peak output, dropping from 40 hp and 37.5 Nm to 31 hp and 36 Nm. Interestingly, from 3,500 rpm to 5,500 rpm, the T4 actually generates more torque than the Speed 400. This tuning prioritizes low RPM rideability, providing a more relaxed riding experience.

Revised Sprocketing: The rear sprocket has been adjusted from 43 to 39 teeth, further enhancing its focus on easier handling. The reduction in engine power has also led to the exclusion of traction control in the T4, contributing to cost savings.

Pricing and Market Strategy

The Speed T4 is priced ₹23,000 lower than the Speed 400, which now retails for ₹2.40 lakh post-update.
