Introduction
Tom Cruise has been one of the biggest Hollywood names for years. He has won numerous awards such as the Golden Globe Awards and countless others for his spectacular movies. He is known to lay down the conditions to appear in a film and does all his stunts himself making him a talented actor as well as a daredevil adventurer.
Luckily for all motorcycle fans, Cruise is a big bike lover, we can often see him riding a cool bike in almost all his films.
Everything has a name. Yes! You may call it unfortunate (or you may not). When a furry animal was found in Central America, the one with a staggering foul stench that can empty a Parliament in a jiffy, that animal was named ‘Skunk’!
Kawasaki GPZ900R - Top Gun
Tom Cruise has been doing it for decades – including motorcycles in his films. Years before a lot of us were even born, Cruise rode the Kawasaki GPZ900R for the big screen as Captain Maverick in Top Gun 1986. Kawasaki GPZ900R is one of many bikes from Tom’s collection. This bike has a 998cc engine and a maximum speed of 248 miles per hour. As the second part of the film was announced, Cruise recently released a picture of the Kawasaki Ninja H2, which is a replacement for the GPZ900R model.
Harley Davidson Heritage Softail Classic – Days of Thunder
The movie called Days of Thunder came out in the 1990s, and Tom Cruise played the character named Cole Trickle. Even though this was a NASCAR-related film, Cruise managed to add a scene with a Harley Davidson Heritage Softail Classic. Tom Cruise managed to sneak in a scene in the movie on NASCAR, this shows his deep love for motorcycles. All we can say is Ride on.
Triumph Speed Triple – Mission Impossible 2
Tom Cruise is famous for his Mission Impossible franchise. How can we talk about MI 2, and not talk about the climax scene, if you don’t, let us recall, In Mission Impossible 2, he is trying to get away on his Triumph Speed Triple while the bad guy used the Triumph Daytona to chase him? This chase scene with Cruise on a Speed Triple and the baddie on a Daytona remains on the top of the list of MI film chase scenes. The dual ‘bug-eye’ headlamp design and polished frame gave the bike a strong streetfighter look that became the trademark of the series, especially the shot where Cruise emerges from a cloud of flames astride the Speed. A superb scene with one of the best street and track bikes around. Truly a masterpiece.
Honda CRF 450X – Oblivion
This machine appeared in the film Oblivion, and only to show its design. As for the sci-fi movie, it is one of the best and the most confusing films with Tom Cruise. Usually, we watch him in straight-up action scenes, but here, his role was somewhat different. The story is set 64 years into the future, and he is a maintenance guy who takes care of robotic drones. Of course, his vehicle of choice is a futuristic bike that started its life as a Honda CRF450X. Unlike some other films, the bike is not involved in chasing scenes, but it has a futuristic design, and we have to mention it. As for the specification and performance of the bike, it has a single-cylinder, 449cc engine, and the maximum speed is 105 miles per hour.
Triumph Thruxton – Edge of Tomorrow
In the movie Edge of Tomorrow, Tom Cruise is fighting the aliens, and he still managed to have a scene where he rides a British motorcycle through the streets of London. The bike of choice this time is a Triumph Thruxton. This movie is somewhat similar to Groundhog Day, as Cruise gets caught in a time loop on the day of his death. This is the only similarity between the two films. As for the motorcycle, it is named after the high-speed British circuit where Triumph had major success.
Ducati Hypermotard – Knight and Day
Ducati is a very popular motorcycle brand among celebrities and so is Tom Cruise. In the film Knight and Day, Cruise shares the bike racing scene with his colleague Cameron Diaz. As the two shuffles around in the seat of the motorcycle, they are maneuvering through the streets of Seville, Spain, avoiding bad guys and stampeding bulls. The bike used here was the Ducati Hypermotard, while the people that tried to catch them had a Kawasaki KZ-1000 police motorcycle.
Kawasaki H2 – Top Gun 2
Top Gun 2 is coming up in 2020. As the GPZ900R was the fastest production motorcycle back in 1986, Maverick had to ride the fastest production motorcycle in today’s day and age. Hence, the supercharged Kawasaki H2. The other good thing about seeing these motorcycles share the screen with Tom Cruise is that he does most of the riding himself.
BMW Motorrad S1000RR – Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation
In the latest Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, Tom Cruise rides a BMW Motorrad S1000RR and displays his skills with the bike. This one was perhaps the coolest chase scene of all Mission Impossible films). Rogue Nation had a load of BMW Motorrad but we love the crooked-faced S1000RR doing high-speed corners with a Tom Cruise on it. This movie is important because it marked almost 30 years of Cruise bringing his motorcycle passion to the silver screen. Its maximum speed is 188 miles per hour.
Tom Cruise will always find a way to squeeze in a scene where he rides a bike. It doesn’t matter whether it is a sci-fi film or an action thriller. Motorcycles will not have a huge role in his films, but they are usually a part of the high-speed chase. This only shows the passion he has for two-wheelers when the cameras shut down.
Regardless of the many motorcycles, he has ridden across the big screen, he is arguably the most famous actor in the world, which allows him to be known as a bike-loving person to riders everywhere. Among the two-wheeled world, he’s known for his motorcycle collection, and his passion for riding is as much as it is for his films.
