A lot of us have aspirations to buy our dream machine, the problem is most of us lack the budget to do so.

Since most of us are short of funds, we tend to find second-hand deals to fulfill our aspiration to own a dream machine.

When we decide to buy a used vehicle, we often tend to look for a good deal based on pricing. If the price seems tangible, we jump on the first opportunity to purchase the second-hand vehicle.

The idea of buying a good enough vehicle at a great price makes us enthusiastic about the deal we are getting into.

In the rush to buy our dream vehicle, we tend to focus on one aspect(price) and tend to forget about the fact it is used by someone before us.

A vehicle with prior ownership can amount to a no of things that might be wrong with the vehicle.

Many people who end up going for second-hand deals end up getting scammed by the seller.

They often end up buying vehicles that have not been managed well.

This leads to a lot of issues for the current owner over a period of time.

In our opinion, we need to sit back, relax and follow a series of checks before we go ahead into any sort of deal for a used vehicle to guarantee that a safe and good quality vehicle is being handed to us.

In this article; we need to discuss some checks which will help us obtain a well-maintained vehicle that could serve us for years to come.

So let’s start the process of checks with the first one;

1. Check all the Papers through RTO:

First and foremost what you need to do is check all the previous papers of the vehicles from the registered transport office or the transport department website, we need to make sure that the Two Wheeler we are selling has legal ownership, this step is important to figure out if the vehicle is genuine, the papers are not fake and it is not a stolen two-wheeler.

2. Insurance coverage used – accidental damage:

Next, you need to check the validity of the insurance papers and any sort of accidental damage amount claimed from the policy in the recent past, this step will validate two things, first it will make sure if the current insurance policy has not lapsed, or it is in continuation, second it can detect major accidental damage in recent years which can create an issue for the new owner during later stages of the ownership.

3. Check for any bends on the frame:

The third step you need to take is to check any sort of damage in the frame of the two-wheelers, the frame is a key element of any Two wheelers, and any sort of damage or bend in the frame could lead to disbalance of the Two Wheeler, resulting in an accident, also fixing it will be an additional expenditure of high magnitude for a new owner.

4. Breaks and Leaks:

After the frame check, it is important to check for any breakage or leakage in the Two wheelers, any sort of Break or Leak found can mean major damage to the Two wheelers which will not bode well for the new owner, any leakage or breakage will lead to the replacement of the part which might become a huge expenditure for the new owner of the vehicle.

5. Wear & Tear of the Engine:

Next, you need to look into the wear and tear of the engine, used vehicles can be handled badly by the previous owner, and this will show in the engine wear and tear, you can check the wear in the engine by the ride quality of the vehicle, the clunking sound coming from the engine, no of km the Two Wheeler has Run, external decay and rust, overheating of the engine and no of other factors which may indicate that engine is either old or finished, the age of the engine is an important factor in determining the quality of the machine which is being handed over if the engine shows any sort of damage you need to stay away from the Two Wheeler.

6. Bonus Point (Manufacturing Date on a Two Wheeler):

Especially in Delhi NCR): This is a bonus checkpoint for people living in Delhi NCR about 60km from the national capital, due to environmental issues and policy changes: a Petrol Two wheeler can be owned up to 15 yrs from the date of manufacture, after that the RC would be canceled and not renewed for Delhi NCR if you’re looking for a Two Wheeler, especially in Delhi NCR: make sure to check the date of manufacture of the vehicle, if the date is close to 15 yrs of ownership please stay away from the two-wheeler as you are not able to ride the vehicle in 60km range of Delhi NCR due to the 15 yr restrictions and you will either have to scrap your Two wheeler or sell it to someone living in the area outside the prescribed km limit from the national capital.

These were the checkpoints all of us need to remember before we go in for a Used Two Wheeler; make sure you check all the points before you make any sort of deal for a Two Wheeler.

We want you to be smart and get the best possible deal on a Used Two Wheeler, Follow the steps; Stay Safe and Enjoy the Ride.
