Available in two variants: the standard Speed Twin 1200 and the sportier RS variant. The primary differences between the two lie in their underpinnings and slight ergonomic adjustments.
Engine and Performance
Both models are powered by the same liquid-cooled 1,200cc parallel-twin engine, which now features a new cam, sportier tuning, and an increased redline of 8,000 rpm. They produce 105 hp at 7,750 rpm and 112 Nm of torque at 4,250 rpm. This marks a 5 hp increase over the previous model, with the power output occurring 500 rpm later in the rev band. Both variants are equipped with a slip-and-assist clutch and a 6-speed gearbox, but only the RS comes with a bidirectional quickshifter, making it the first neo-retro model from Triumph to feature this technology.
Design and Features
Aesthetic Updates: The Speed Twin 1200 models have undergone significant design changes, including a sleeker appearance with new engine casings, inverted shock absorbers at the rear, and narrower exhaust mufflers. The headlight is now the same LED unit found on the Speedmaster.
Instrumentation: The traditional twin digi-analogue dials have been replaced by a modern LCD display from the Trident 660, along with updated switchgear. A USB-C charging port is now standard.
Color Options: The standard Speed Twin 1200 is available in three colors: white, red, and silver. The RS variant offers two options: black and orange. Additionally, a range of factory-supplied optional extras, such as clip-on bars and a solo seat for a cafe racer look, is available.
Ergonomics
Standard Speed Twin 1200: This model features a more relaxed riding position, with the handlebar moved up and back toward the rider and footpegs placed for a roomier feel. It has a lower seat height of 805 mm compared to the RS variant.
Speed Twin 1200 RS: The RS variant has a sportier setup, featuring a lower, forward-set handlebar and higher, rear-set footpegs, resulting in a taller seat height of 810 mm. It is equipped with fully adjustable Marzocchi forks and Ohlins shock absorbers, as well as premium Brembo Stylema calipers that grip twin 320 mm discs.
Suspension and Braking
The standard Speed Twin 1200 uses a non-adjustable 43 mm fork and twin shock absorbers, both from Marzocchi, with Triumph-branded radial 4-piston calipers for braking. It rolls on Metzeler M9RR tires.
The RS variant features upgraded components, including superbike-spec braking and Metzeler Racetec RR tires.
Safety and Riding Modes
Both models come standard with cornering ABS, traction control, and two riding modes: Road and Rain. The RS variant additionally features a Sport mode and the bidirectional quickshifter.
Pricing
Internationally, the standard Triumph Speed Twin 1200 is priced at GBP 12,495, up from GBP 11,995 for the previous model, while the RS variant is priced at GBP 14,495. In India, the current Speed Twin 1200 is priced at ₹11.09 lakh, and it remains to be seen how Bajaj will position the new models in the Indian market when they launch.
