News Story
Yamaha has officially launched its first electric scooter in India, the EC-06, priced at Rs 1.68 lakh (ex-showroom, Maharashtra). Currently available only in Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu, this model marks the Japanese brand’s entry into the EV market, co-developed with Bengaluru-based startup River.
Key Specifications
The EC-06 features a 4kWh battery pack paired with a 6.7kW motor, delivering a claimed IDC range of 169km and a top speed of 79kph. It offers 0-80% charging in about 8 hours using the standard 480W charger, with a kerb weight of 132kg – 3kg lighter than the base model it’s derived from.
Features and Design
Equipped with a colour LCD instrument cluster, three riding modes, reverse assist, Bluetooth connectivity, LED headlamp and taillight, plus disc brakes on both ends. It provides 24.5 litres of underseat storage and a front apron cubby, sporting a sleeker, sharper design compared to the boxier River Indie.
Pricing and Comparison
Priced Rs 22,000 higher than the River Indie, on which it is based, the EC-06 shares the same battery-motor setup but adds Yamaha’s premium branding and refined styling. Manufactured at River’s Hoskote plant in Karnataka, it uses the earlier Indie LCD layout.
This launch positions Yamaha strongly in India’s growing EV scooter segment, offering practical range and features for urban commuters. Head to select showrooms to check it out.
