Aprilia has quietly discontinued the SXR 125, SXR 160, and SR 160 in India

News Story

In a major cleanup of its scooter lineup. The SR 160 has effectively been replaced by the new SR 175, while the SXR maxi-scooter range has been removed entirely with no direct replacement announced so far.

What has changed
The biggest update is the end of the SR 160, which had already been absent from the lineup for some time. Aprilia has now shifted attention to the SR 175, a more powerful evolution of the same scooter that brings a larger engine, a new TFT display, and updated positioning in the brand’s portfolio.

The SXR 125 and SXR 160 have also been discontinued. These scooters formed Aprilia’s maxi-scooter range and stood apart from the SR line thanks to their larger bodywork and 12-inch wheel setup, but they never became strong mainstream sellers in India.

SR 175 replaces SR 160
The new SR 175 is the clear successor to the SR 160. Aprilia enlarged the old 160cc motor to create a 174.7cc engine, which now makes 12.9hp and 14.14Nm.

That is a noticeable jump over the outgoing SR 160’s 11.27hp and 13.44Nm, so the new scooter is expected to feel stronger in real-world performance. Aprilia has also added a TFT dash borrowed from the brand’s higher-end 457 range, while keeping the familiar LED headlight and tail-light styling.

SXR range phased out
The end of the SXR range is more significant from a product strategy point of view. These scooters were positioned as premium maxi-scooters and were offered in both 125cc and 160cc forms, but they shared engines with the SR siblings and did not get a direct replacement.

Unlike the SR range, which used a more conventional sporty scooter format with 14-inch wheels, the SXR models had larger and more distinctive bodywork with 12-inch wheels. Even with that more premium design, the range never fully caught on in India, and Aprilia appears to have quietly moved on from the concept.

Current Aprilia scooter lineup
At present, Aprilia’s scooter range in India is focused mainly on the SR 125 and SR 175. These are priced at Rs 1.14 lakh and Rs 1.21 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi, respectively.

The company had not made a major formal announcement about the discontinuation of these older scooters, which is why the changes have largely gone unnoticed by many buyers. However, the lineup shift shows that Aprilia is now concentrating on fewer, more relevant products rather than keeping every old variant on sale.

Why it matters
This move suggests Aprilia is trying to sharpen its scooter strategy in India. The brand seems to be betting on the SR family’s sportier identity and stronger performance rather than spreading itself across multiple similar models.

For enthusiasts, the arrival of the SR 175 is a more meaningful update than the discontinued SXR scooters. It brings better performance, fresher tech, and a clearer product identity, which may help Aprilia compete more effectively in the premium scooter segment.
