Bajaj Chetak Sales Surge Past 7.27 Lakh Units, FY2026 Volume Up 25 Percent

News Story

Bajaj Auto’s Chetak electric scooter has crossed a major milestone in India, with cumulative sales now standing at 7,27,779 units between FY2021 and May 6, 2026. That makes it only the third electric two-wheeler brand in the country to cross the 7 lakh mark, after Ola Electric and TVS Motor Company.

The milestone underlines how strongly the Chetak has grown after a slow start in its early years. According to Vahan data, nearly 5,77,023 units of the Chetak have been sold since FY2025, meaning 79 percent of its total lifetime sales have come in just the last two years. That shows the brand’s transformation from a cautious market entrant into one of India’s biggest EV scooter names.

Sales growth
The Chetak’s growth has been especially sharp over the past two financial years. In FY2025, the scooter sold 2,39,087 units, which was a massive 114 percent increase over FY2024’s 1,11,713 units. That surge helped Bajaj Auto become the third-largest electric two-wheeler OEM in India during that year.

The momentum continued into FY2026, when sales climbed further to 2,98,436 units, marking a 25 percent year-on-year increase. This was also the first time Bajaj Auto finished a fiscal year as the second-largest electric two-wheeler manufacturer in India, showing that the Chetak has moved well beyond being a niche product.

Market share jump
The Chetak’s sales rise has also translated into a steep gain in market share. Bajaj Auto had just 4 percent of India’s electric two-wheeler market in FY2023, but that figure rose to 11 percent in FY2024. It then nearly doubled again to 20 percent in FY2025 and stayed at the same level in FY2026.

This kind of growth is significant in a market as competitive as electric scooters, where buyers are constantly comparing range, features, pricing, and brand trust. Bajaj has clearly managed to improve its position by pushing the Chetak as a more premium, practical, and reliable urban EV option.

Current line-up
The Chetak is currently sold in India at a price range of Rs 96,399 to Rs 1.35 lakh ex-showroom. It is offered with a claimed range of 113km to 155km, depending on the variant, and comes with features such as a USB charging port, Bluetooth connectivity, LED tail light, and disc front brake.

The scooter is sold in multiple variants, including the 3001, 3501, and 3502. Bajaj has also recently refreshed the range with revised ‘C Series’ naming, additional features, and higher top speeds, reflecting the company’s effort to keep pace with rising competition.

FY2027 momentum
Early FY2027 numbers suggest the Chetak may still have more room to grow. Between April 1 and May 6, 2026, Bajaj Auto retailed around 39,500 electric two-wheelers, giving it a 22 percent market share during that period.

During the same stretch, TVS Motor sold 45,186 units, Ather Energy retailed 32,434 units, and Hero Vida recorded 18,112 units. That means the electric scooter battle is still very active, but Bajaj has now firmly established Chetak as one of the strongest names in the segment.

Why this matters
Crossing 7 lakh cumulative sales is more than just a numbers story. It shows that Bajaj has successfully turned the Chetak into a mainstream EV brand with sustained demand, not just a nostalgia-driven comeback product.

The scooter’s rise also reflects how much the Indian EV market has matured in recent years. Buyers are now responding not just to new launches and aggressive pricing, but also to trust, service network strength, and long-term product consistency, all of which have helped the Chetak build momentum.
