Indian Motorcycle Goes Fully Independent: Carolwood LP Closes Polaris Deal, Mike Kennedy Takes CEO Role!
Iconic American brand Indian Motorcycle has officially split from Polaris Inc. after private equity firm Carolwood LP finalized its acquisition of a majority stake, marking the start of a new standalone era. Announced in October 2025, the deal coincides perfectly with Indian’s 125th anniversary celebrations in 2026, promising renewed focus on its cruiser heritage and innovation.
Leadership and Transition
Industry veteran Mike Kennedy – with prior stints at Harley-Davidson, Vance & Hines, and RumbleOn – steps in as CEO. “It’s an incredible honour… 2026 will drive the brand into the future with renewed commitment as a standalone company,” Kennedy stated, emphasizing deeper differentiation in style, craftsmanship, and performance rooted in Indian’s legacy.
Operations and Workforce
Around 900 employees transition to the new entity, with manufacturing staying at Spirit Lake, Iowa, and Monticello, Minnesota facilities. R&D continues at Burgdorf, Switzerland, and Wyoming, Minnesota centers. Strong dealer support is pledged, with collaborative input on operations, products, and marketing.
India Uncertainty
