Oben Electric’s latest offering targets budget-conscious EV buyers with a rare-earth-free motor, 180km range, and a feature-packed package
Launch & Pricing
Oben Electric has officially launched the Rorr Evo, the latest addition to its electric motorcycle lineup, at an aggressive introductory price of Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the first 10,000 customers. Once this limited offer concludes, the motorcycle will be priced at Rs 1.25 lakh — still a competitive figure in the growing electric two-wheeler segment.
Bookings are now open across Oben’s channels, with deliveries scheduled to commence from next month. The Rorr Evo slots in as the entry-level variant in Oben’s current portfolio, sitting alongside the neo-retro Rorr EZ Sigma.
What’s New: Motor & Battery
The headline update on the Rorr Evo is its in-house developed I-PMSM (Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) — notably free of rare-earth materials, a significant engineering achievement that could reduce dependency on critical mineral supply chains.
The motor is rated at a peak power of 9kW and is IP68-certified, offering robust protection against dust and water ingress. Performance figures include:
Top Speed: 110 kph
0–40 kph: 3 seconds
Peak Wheel Torque: 250 Nm
Component size reduction: 40%, helping keep kerb weight at just 140 kg
Powering the motor is a 3.4kWh LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery pack, backed by an 8-year warranty and IP67 certification. Oben claims the battery has been rigorously tested at temperatures up to 280°C, underlining its thermal resilience. The IDC-rated range stands at 180km, with a claimed real-world range of approximately 150km — a notable 25% improvement over the previous model.
The Rorr Evo also transitions to a chain-drive setup, which Oben says improves drivetrain efficiency by 10 percent.
Chassis, Suspension & Brakes
Built around a trellis frame on the existing ARX platform, the Rorr Evo’s hardware is well-suited for Indian road conditions:
Front Suspension: Telescopic fork
Rear Suspension: 7-step adjustable monoshock
Brakes: 270mm disc at both ends with CBS (Combined Braking System)
Ground Clearance: 200mm
Water-Wading Capacity: 230mm
The seat height is set at 780mm, featuring a 680mm long seat — claimed to be the longest in its class — improving comfort for both rider and pillion.
Features & Technology
The Rorr Evo comes loaded with features that punch well above its price point:
5-inch TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity
Four Riding Modes: Eco, Road, Havoc, and Smart IQ
Smart IQ Mode uses AI to estimate real-time range based on individual riding patterns
Eco Mode speed cap raised to 60 kph, a direct response to customer feedback
Fall Alert System linked to the companion app, which notifies emergency contacts automatically
All-LED lighting with a projector headlight and horizontal DRL up front
Storage & Charging
Under-seat compartment: 6 litres
Tank storage area: 4 litres with two USB ports
Oben Plug: Compatible with standard 15A sockets
Oben Port: Fast-charging option claiming 1km of range per minute
Design & Colours
The Rorr Evo receives a fresh front-end design, featuring a sharper, more modern look anchored by the all-LED projector headlight setup. It is available in four colour options:
🔵 Blue | 🔴 Red | ⚪ White | ⚫ Black
Where It Sits in Oben’s Lineup
With the launch of the Rorr Evo, Oben now retails two models — the Rorr Evo and the Rorr EZ Sigma. Interestingly, the positioning raises some questions:
ModelBatteryPrice (Ex-showroom)Rorr Evo (Intro)3.4 kWhRs 1.00 lakhRorr Evo (Regular)3.4 kWhRs 1.25 lakhRorr EZ Sigma3.4 / 4.4 kWhFrom Rs 1.20 lakh
Once the introductory price expires, the Rorr Evo at Rs 1.25 lakh will actually cost more than the EZ Sigma, despite offering a smaller battery. Buyers looking for more range at a lower price post-offer may find the EZ Sigma with the 4.4kWh pack to be a more compelling choice.
Verdict
The Oben Rorr Evo makes a strong case for itself during the introductory window — a rare-earth-free motor, LFP battery with an 8-year warranty, AI-assisted range estimation, and a 180km IDC range at Rs 1 lakh is genuinely competitive. However, prospective buyers should act quickly: at Rs 1.25 lakh post-offer, the value calculus shifts, and the Rorr EZ Sigma begins to look like the smarter buy for most. For the first 10,000 customers, though, this may well be one of the best-value electric motorcycles on the Indian market today.
